Professor Smelik is project leader of three research programs on fashion, all subsidised by NWO (the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research):

  1. 'Crafting Wearables', is a research project on fashionable technology, 2013-2018; together with ArtEZ Fashion Academy and Technical University Eindhoven, and private partners such as Philips and Textile Museum Tilburg. Please read the interview in Fashion United 'Technologie als modevriend' (in Dutch); or the short Summary or Samenvatting.

  2. KIEM project for innovation in the creative industries: "Vlisco: Made in Holland, adorned in West-Africa". This short research project  on cultural hybridity will run from February till September 2015. The research will be done by Dani�lle Bruggeman.
     
  3. 'Dutch Fashion in a Globalised World' was a research project on the cultural dynamics of Dutch fashion that finished in 2014. In 2015 the book From Delft Blue to Denim Blue. Contemporary Dutch Fashion (edited by Anneke Smelik) will be published by I.B. Tauris.
